Has anyone else heard about the 18 year old boy from Basking Ridge who was arrested for having child pornogaphy on his computer? You can read the story here.
The story does NOT make clear is the age of the "children" in the photos found on his computer. He had only been 18 for about a month when the photos were found and he was arrested. My question is, had the pictures been found a month earlier, would he have been arrested? What if the pictures were sent by fellow students? Do you still think he should have been arrested? What should the protocol be for when an 18 year old, still in High School, gets caught with pictures of other students that could be considered child pornography?

This is why i stand by the statment that kids today really shouldnt have cell phones. If they MUST have one, then it should not be picture phones or have that sort of messaging capability. Really, if your kid needs a phone to get in contact with you, it should be the kid safe plan where you control who calls in and who the child can call and be able to call 911. But to send pictures? What child needs that right?
I should say privledge, not right.

i agree Shann, kids should have these phones because they can't handle real phones with picture and text messaging!
but i feel bad for some of these kids because they aren't old enough to drink, gamble or buy cigarettes (not that those are GOOD things, however they are adult things) but they CAN be charged for crimes as adults- why not change the age of minors from 18 to 21? IF the pictures were of his peers it's a completely awful reason to arrest him- and whoever sent those pictures should be fined or arrested as well!

I think 18 is 18. I don't think their grade should have anything to do with it. After all, there are 20 year olds in high school, they are still adults.
I think the case may have something to do with him saving the images and possibly distributing them. I understand it's not a kid's fault if someone sends them a picture unsolicited. It's quite another matter to store it on the computer. If he had deleted the images once they hit his inbox he wouldn't be in trouble.
